Personality.
Coming from such a regal and dignified dam like Amira... well, Maj is a little bit of an embarrassment. Like a prince who likes to play pranks on all of the guests, much to the queen's dismay. He's kind of a goof, but in the most lovable way. He's very social, easily flitting from group to group in the field. None of the other horses seem to dislike him - he just has that kind of easygoing personality. Even if someone snaps at him, he's very forgiving and will seek out friendship again at the soonest chance. He's just as personable with the staff as he is with those of his own kind. He's incredibly curious, and new noises and sights don't tend to scare him as much as they intrigue him (after an initial bit of fuss, of course). It's gotten him into trouble before, evident by three faint scratch scars on his muzzle - he got too close to some sort of wild animal, likely a raccoon from what the staff could tell. Even with things that are normal, everyday occurrences, he still acts like there's something new and interesting going on and he just HAS to be a part of it. He's ridiculous when his stall is being cleaned, because he's all up in the business of the person cleaning, getting in the way constantly. When he's being groomed, his head is always turned back, watching what's happening and putting his nose in the way to investigate. It's both adorably endearing and incredibly frustrating. Since he was a foal, the Suhail boys have had a habit of sneaking him sweets - peppermints in particular. Because of it, he's become a little obsessed with the treat. If you have some on you, he'll find it with the efficiency of a drug-sniffing dog. His only real quirks are that he hates being blanketed and he doesn't like his tail touched. With the blankets, he just doesn't seem to like them on - he breaks the clips, rips them, etc. Anything he can to get the darn thing off. With his tail, it's just better to give his hind end a wide berth. If he really needs to be brushed... well, quick reflexes are a good trait. Under saddle Maj is well-behaved but a little rambunctious. He likes to try and nibble riders' boots and always throws a few bucks during warm-ups. If he's allowed too close to other horses, he tries to play by nipping them - which often ends up in kicks being thrown, so it's safer for the riders to just keep him at a wide berth. Maj prefers to work in company - he's distracted and fidgety if he's alone, and no real work gets done. When there are other horses, he seems to view it as a big game, and that's what gives him his competitive edge. So flawless? Not so much. Majestic? Hardly. But this colt is going to be the perfect heir to a glorious legacy.

Maj loads easily into the gate, focused and eager while he waits for them to open. When the bells ring he gets out well but behind the quickest breakers. If there are a lot of frontrunners, he's comfortable running just behind them. If there aren't, he's more likely to hang back further in the pack. He seems to run equally well from either position as long as he can run in company. He settles easily and sits steady throughout the race until he makes his move late. Because he gets anxious if he's on his own for too long, he can't get too far ahead too early. His turn of foot can allow him to open a gap late, though, so his wins can either be white-knuckle or runaway.
